n 1991, along with her sister Doreyl Ammons Cain, author Amy Ammons Garza co-founded Catch the Spirit of Appalachia, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to lift the human spirit through development of creativity, self-motivation and pride in heritage.

What better path to positive change through the arts than respect for other's heritage, respect for ones self. As people begin to understand one another in an arts environment, a bond is established that will withstand many obstacles.
